With our lives becoming more and more consumed by digital technology, it’s becoming increasingly convenient to hand our children an iPad or Xbox to keep them occupied which has resulted in children spending significantly more time indoors.
Studies show that a lack of outdoor activity can have a negative effect on a child’s health and development as they become a part of the “indoor generation” era which in hand has an impact on their Circadian Rhythm.
Here at YMCA Day Nursery we fully understand the importance of outdoor play, and thanks to the kind contributions from Newcastle Building Society, we’ve recently upgraded our whole outdoor area, making it a safe and fun environment for the children to play in whilst furthering their learning and development.
The renovation unveiled a large turf area perfect for the children to run around, as well as hands on activity areas where the children can learn how things work whilst getting creative. With health and fitness being at the forefront of the new outdoor space, stepping logs and a climbing frame equipped with a bumpy slide were also included.
With the new improvements to our external space, the children have never been so keen to get outside, learning and playing in the sunshine. As the weather gets warmer we’ll be heading up to the YMCA allotment for more fun, outdoor activities.
